A new parking lot on Decebal Street in Ungheni: merchants bought the 46,000-lei paving, the city hall paid for the labour

On Decebal Street, across from the former boarding school, a public parking lot is being built through a cofinancing arrangement: nearby merchants and entrepreneurs bought 175 square metres of paving, worth 46,000 lei, while Ungheni City Hall paid for the labour and the other materials. The work, carried out by Servicii Comunale even on a Saturday, addresses a real problem for the town — parking spaces.

All 7 kindergartens in Ungheni close between 17 and 26 August for sanitation and repairs

All seven kindergartens in the municipality of Ungheni suspend their activity from 17 to 26 August, according to a mayor's order. During these ten days the premises undergo sanitation, pest control and routine repairs, ahead of the new school year. The decision rests on the Regulation on enrolling children in preschool institutions, approved in 2023. One question raised by parents in the comments remains: what those who work are to do with their children during this period.

Ungheni's municipal enterprises take to their bikes — in a town with 311 cars per thousand residents

On Friday, 24 July 2026, from 16.00, the weekly „VeloVineri” campaign run by Ungheni City Hall puts the municipal enterprises in the spotlight, starting from the front of City Hall. Beyond the ride, the underlying stake is real: a town with 311 cars per thousand residents — about 40% above the district average — and with narrow lanes, which has set itself the goal that, by 2030, one in ten trips be made by bike. The figures show major benefits for health and for the wallet; research also shows that a town truly starts pedalling above all when it gets safe lanes, not just campaigns.

In Ungheni, state institutions took to their bikes for «VeloVineri», riding the newly rehabilitated Burebista street

On Friday, 10 July 2026, Ungheni's weekly «VeloVineri» ride gathered representatives of the town's deconcentrated institutions, brought together by the head of the Territorial Office, Ion Poia. Mayor Vitalie Vrabie gave the start outside the town hall, and the route took the group to the Dănuțeni neighbourhood, along the newly rehabilitated Burebista street — the same one where the administration launched works worth over 10 million lei this summer. Two weeks after the town hall promised a ride every Friday, the initiative shows it has held up.

Ungheni gets on its bike every Friday: «VeloVineri» becomes a weekly ride

The first stage of the second «VeloVineri» season drew dozens of Ungheni residents on Friday, 26 June 2026, who cycled from the city hall along the main streets to the «Lavanda Story» lavender field. And it is no longer a one-off: the city hall has announced that «VeloVineri» will continue every Friday at 4 p.m. in the coming months. Beyond the exercise and socialising, the stakes are real — a city with 311 cars per thousand residents and narrow bike lanes that wants to convince people to leave the car at home.
